In order to secure the stability of our power grids and successfully master the energy transition in Germany, there is an urgent need for action to significantly increase the flexibility of the power grids. To achieve this, storage technologies must be integrated into the grid in a more grid-friendly manner and existing hurdles must be removed.
The white paper "Grid-serving use of (large-scale) storage systems - practical example and need for regulatory action" highlights the status quo of the use of battery storage systems in the German energy system on the basis of the current market situation, application scenarios and a practical example of a battery storage system schedule. Afterwards, the grid-serving use of battery storage is elaborated, the existing challenges are identified and solutions are provided.
