In order to secure the stability of our power grids and successfully master the energy transition in Germany, there is an urgent need for action to significantly increase the flexibility of the power grids. To achieve this, storage technologies must be integrated into the grid in a more grid-friendly manner and existing hurdles must be removed.
The white paper "Grid-serving use of (large-scale) storage systems - practical example and need for regulatory action" examines the status quo of the use of battery storage systems in the German energy system based on the current market situation, application scenarios and a practical example of a battery storage system schedule. It then elaborates on the grid-friendly use of battery storage systems, identifies the existing challenges and provides possible solutions.
