Battery storage systems are an important component of the energy revolution. So far, their expansion has lagged behind — but the crisis in e-cars of all things could now prove to be a blessing.

The energy revolution in Germany is making progress: In the first half of 2024, the share of renewable energies in the electricity mix rose to 57 percent. This new influx of renewable energy is pushing the power grid to its limits. Battery storage and an optimized redispatch process could play a key role in improving the integration of renewables and reducing grid bottlenecks. However, there are still a few hurdles to overcome, says Benedikt Deuchert.

The German government is currently pursuing various strategies to advance the energy transition. Large-scale battery storage systems also play an important role in this. However, a look at the key strategies for the expansion of large-scale battery storage systems shows that the individual projects are not coordinated or even contradict each other in some cases.
